The Rain is Over - Cleaning Up Garden.

I feel so much better this week, and I can see sunshine. In fact been taking advantage of it by having my morning tea on the verandah. Nothing better to brighten your day than being outside.

The torrential rain has hopefully stopped except for maybe showers. This was on top of the almost every day rains we have been having. I am so pleased to get a break from the recent 10 day downpour, (although spent most of it in bed)  and catch up on all the washing. Our garage flooded, which caused the power to go off, in half the downstairs area, and needs to dry out before anything can be done. My 4 cube storage, that I store the fabric in went mouldy so had to empty it all out again to save it, from also going mouldy. Everything feels damp so we are opening up all doors and windows and let the warm air come in. From Jan to Mar so far we have had 1289 mm of rain.

Before
If I do too much I still get a bit breathless but have started on the front garden autumn cleanup, with about an hour a day. Yesterday also got miss P to help, she hasn't been for ages so didn't stop chatting all the time. We partially cleaned the bank of most of the sweet potato that took over, plus the snail vine from the arch, that managed to invade this area also.

After
There is still a lot more to do here and I may attack it during the week.

Before under the Avocado tree

After under the Avocado Tree

Rubbish that has to go into a neighbours bin, ours is full.

I cleaned some of the beds, during the week, and have planted sweet peas, and Russian garlic, dwarf beans "Jade". Split off some baby slips from the Silverbeet which I also cut back as it was destroyed with the rain. Sprinkled some old Buttercrunch lettuce seeds, I  grew, but have been kept in the fridge and may sprout.

Russian Garlic a little milder than ordinary garlic.

All new seeds planted, sweet peas should look nice on this trellis, against glass house. Garlic in front, beans in corner,

On the other side I planted snow peas, with little Gem lettuce seeds. Eventually down the other end will put 2 or 3 cabbages.  Then in the middle did three rows of carrots seeds. Believe it or not I am now watering all seeds daily so they sprout.

Ripped out cucumber and beans that rain destroyed, seeds of snow peas, lettuce in front.

John started Miss P on painting the verandah posts for an hour, and towards the end I helped her get to the half way point so he could string the wires across, at this highest point. What a difference a clean paint of white looks. The boards will eventually be replaced we are looking at plastic/rubber type ones that don't need painting. The poles will be white, which Miss P said she would climb the ladder to do. Bless her heart, will save my knees that is for sure

The back garden I am ignoring. What we did start is now undone. I definitely need help with this one.

Today I am resting, ready to start my normal week, with embroidery and quilting groups.. We still are waiting on the insurance claim, which is starting to get very frustrating as need to organize our trip to Burleigh Heads still. We have 38 days left to get up there to choose colours etc. and I would like to go knowing our financial needs.

I hope everyone in this area survived the rain and floods.

Till Next Time.
