Taking A Month Off.

 Having spent a slow week organizing the "Sewing Room" which is actually the largish empty space at the bottom of the stairs to go outside, it is really not Blog worthy in my mind as no-one wants to know about wrapping ribbons or braid onto cardboard, decluttering knitting needles and crotchet needles. Just in case though here is the current declutter mess.

Thinking of something to write about each week, has been a bit of a struggle, as with all this rain, working in the garden has slowed down, and cleaning and decluttering is not that news worthy. Plus with Covid  and now the Flu season is on us, going out is still a worry. Everything is wet outside, even at 9.30am when I took these photos, trying out my new phone.

Carrots and Snow Peas.

 Miss P couldn't come yesterday as she has come down with covid as has her sister at Uni. Both are ok. I was aiming for her to help me with painting the kitchen wall, which I haven't had the energy for. So as the heading says I am going to take some time off, the first time I believe in 7 years, and wait maybe a month, which hopefully by then, I will have something to write about of interest. 

For those who are wondering about the hay bales they are now ready to plant in, and I have some bean seeds in the glass house and waiting on them to be able to plant. I will put soil in the hole I will make, in the bale, as planting into the straw just feels wrong. Apparently it is not necessary but I will do it anyway. A cucumber has popped up as well so will give it a go also, at least I think it is a cucumber could be a zuchinni lol, time will tell. 

Although it is still seems to  rain, late in the day or at night, the sun is now appearing on the front verandah about 9.45am so it is lovely to have a cuppa out there morning tea time. I have been lighting the fire at night also, and noticed how the damp feel is disappearing from the inside. I do like Autumn, usually it is the best of both seasons before and after.

 I will be decluttering, deep cleaning, getting the garden ready for Spring as best I can over early winter, pruning roses and painting the kitchen wall, well that's the aim, and doing craft at night. So "see" you in a month.

Community Garden News.

The Garden recently won another grant of $2500, by a voting system, and organized by Essential Energy. This money is going towards a shade system, which is to be decided, for the side of the pavilion.

 It could be a skirt system around the top or actual pull down blinds. So far no quotes have come in for this. The good news though is finally a date has been given for the concrete path around the whole garden to be started, now that the rain has settled down somewhat. It seems to rain mostly at night now, but the sun usually comes out during the day. When they do the concrete path the company will also flatten out and gravel the space for the Container that is to go next to the tanks, and be the office/ride on mower home and battery recharge centre as near the solar power.

The Hay Bale Garden Project has also had a plus as this week, John finally found someone who had hay bales suitable for this.

 Sugar cane which is about the only thing available is no good for this and a local farmer several hours away had some bales that had been left out in the rain and unsuitable for selling. He kindly donated 14 of them, and I have three, which I will use to plant potatoes in ground, plus experiment in the glass house for what is usually summer plants. The garden won't be starting until the warmer weather so we can work on what is needed at home first. 

 Because they are so wet, they are very heavy.One was already falling apart and I will use this for the potatoes.

Of course now I have to clean up the glasshouse. It at the moment is about 30C at the hottest time of day so will be perfect for beans, zucchini and cucumber, which I have started off .

My "hay" bales are sugar cane which I use in the garden so it will be a bit of moving around of stuff to fit two more in. I am also looking at doing a cherry tomato in there as well, so many are coming up, now the sun is out part of the day but with winter coming it will do much better in a warmer climate. 

I should have thought of using the glass house during winter to actually produce something before this, so I am looking forward to the experiment.

This tree is now getting big enough to put a seat under.

I have been slowly working on my garden, and finding it tough, from either RA as aching all the time or lack of exercise, but persevering, as it won't weed itself.  At the moment down in the bottom rose garden, been weeding it an hour at a time. 

In the front garden I have planted some more beetroot, carrot seeds, elephant garlic and finally put in the leeks. Also potted up green, and purple cauliflower to try out, as the coloured ones grew well at the Community Garden and I never have success, as well as  potted up some broccoli, and planted more snow peas.
