Catching up with the Community Garden.

John has been working on the Pavilion getting the brickwork done for the kitchen. It has taken him forever, and doing it on the days when no-one is actually there due to all the interruptions that he encounters

Coffee and Tea Station. Solar Batteries sit on the outside and the Inverter on the inside walled space.

The bricks were donated, the funding was from two areas. The Federal Government grant and a local government one for the solar set up. The solar batteries sit in the lower area and hook up to a 24 volt fridge, and 240 volts for pumps, and a small amount of power we need. Hot water will be from instantaneous gas.

Kitchen Servery area

There is an a stainless steel bench top and sink to be installed on top now that the brick work is finished. The Coffee station area will have the fridge, just a small one under the bench to hold milk and small items. One of the hard things to do is plan for the future and what members in say 10 years require. Hopefully they will be running markets days and events for the community.

Heaps of bulbs have been planted in this garden between a White Myrtle on the LH end, and red flowering gum in the centre and the sign.
Imagine a bench top and doors on front of sections.

There is a portable pizza oven and a portable bbq that can be put where needed and out of the way of traffic.

My original idea when designing this was for the paying customers to walk around the outside while those on the inside dealt with the food and drinks. The outside little brick area to hold sugar milk etc.on the benchtop it will have.

Two concrete pads have also been established for round water tanks to both feed the garden and support the kitchen. One will have filters on it for this purpose. Behind is a sweet pea frame as they were very popular to sell last year.

It has been a big difference with the ride on tractor mower. The grass is being kept in a lawn state. Some general photos of the current situation following.

The compost area has been enlarged.

Strawberries and flower garden beds

There have been some new members join and taken the rented beds, now we only have 4 left, out of the 19. So things are looking up. It has been a few months since I joined in, but have not slacked with any gardening as mine takes a lot of time, plus I am starting a new hobby business selling handcrafted  cards, which I am currently working on and a few other things so stay tuned.

The Entrance

For some reason the entrance garden on the left is flourishing while on  the right , we have lost 3 grevilleas so far. Very disappointing.

The next thing to do now is install the stainless steel benches, and the solar batteries plus the solar panels on the roof. The tanks will also be arriving this month. Still a fair way to go, but consider in May 2017 when John and I took over,  it was an empty block. Amazing how it has grown.

Till Next Time.
