Lawrence the gardener and family, happened to walk past as John and I were out the front, putting flyers in the mailboxes, for his new business Avant Gardens. After a "get to know talk" I hired him on the spot. Best decision I have made this year. Not only helping him and his partner and son with a new business but also saving us a great deal of work.
The biggest problem was the overgrown pond and this was cleared out first.

This was how overgrown it was |

The Bank Garden I have been struggling with. |

Lawrence working away. |

The work was quite hard physically and there is no way we could have done it. The result though is fantastic. He built me a set of steps to go from the vegetable garden above to the pond. Rather than walking all the way around the Gazebo.
Lawrence also made a rock wall against the pond area and built in little areas I could plant something. Still to do that as yet.

Note the steps up to the top |
We left a small clump of Japanese Fishing Pole, and Purple Irises.
The pathway along the fruit trees also cleared.
|
BEFORE :This was taken when John and I started pulling down all the trellis as falling apart after 15 years. |
|
|
AFTER: The trees have blossomed since and covered Peachcot and Mulberry showing. |
|
Better view of the steps up. Note weed mat areas to fill in with plants. |
|
The water lillies are now starting to surface. Pink ones. |

The amount of rubbish that has been taken out has been enormous. At least 8 council bins (love the neighbours) and two ute fulls with our 2 free tickets to dump greenwaste at the council. At the moment Lawrence has moved to the bank garden at the front, which I will show when finished.

We have added more water to the pond and Lawrence even patched up a few holes that were exposed due to sunlight.
So once I get some time to actually get down there, will tidy up the garden along the pond and plant in the little areas. So many plants in pots at the moment to sort out. Enjoying how clean it looks.
Till next time.
looks great, do you have fish or frogs using the pond? i love the look of water hyacinths, lilies are lovely too.
