I can not say the rain has ended as we are still getting some now and then, but at least this weekend we were able to get a heap of stuff done. Miss P came over and I had lined up John to get a trailer load of soil Friday. This time half vegetable mix and cow manure.
I find with this mixture, rather than my normal cow manure and mushroom compost, I can lighten it a bit due to the rain that is still to come. La Nina and all that science stuff. I am thinking that the mushroom compost part, would hold too much water, and vegetable mix has a substantial amount of sand in it.
Of course my Rheumatoid has gone into overdrive this week, probably because of holding back the automatic self injectable injections, which are now not procurable and all back orders have been cancelled at chemists.
That meant going back to my specialist via emails, and the alternative is pre filled syringes which are currently being searched for. If I can get them I have asked a retired RN at the quilting group to give them to me. I don't think I can inject myself that way.
This meant though that carting buckets of heavy soil, was out of the question, so I finished weeding the bits left after doing 3 beds this week with the major stuff. Lucky I can sit down on the edges. Lots of nut grass bulbs left to pull up. Aaaaah I hate that weed with a vengeance.
So after a good three hours we got 3 beds filled, topped with fortified chicken manure, minerals and lucerne compost. Although Miss P and John did most of the work.

Work in progress. Old dog bed in front great for covering new seedlings. |
Of course in the afternoon more rain, but each day I will try and do a bit more. Time to plant sweet peas, snow peas and garlic before Anzac Day. Cabbage and broccoli, plus will add carrots, bok choy, and lettuce as well. Today I will try to get some seeds into pots.
There are two trees that need a tree arborist at some point in time. The above one, my mum planted a Tibouchina or Laseandra depending on where you are I think. Anyway I would like this one to be cut down to the purple flowers at the bottom, at least. I think a few limbs were damaged by the hail we had a few months ago as they have died off.The other one is the Olive Tree, it has gone berserk and the birds eat all the olives, two thirds of this need to come off, so it can be netted. Plus with such a large tree wondering what the root system is doing. Results of all this rain.
I must say though it is nice to see the sun, especially around morning tea time , and to sit outside on the verandah and enjoy it without getting wet from the rain.
Till Next Time.
