Storm Devastation of the Community Garden.

Last Thursday I left the house for the first time since the hail damage. I knew it had happened but I wasn't expecting the trees in the district, to look so bare. You know how after a fire the trees are all leafless and black well here the trees are all bare without the burnt trunks. Even looking through the bush was unreal, normally it is quite dense, but the under story seems to have died back as well.  Quite an eye opening drive.

Many birds and bats were killed in the hail or euthanized by some dedicated vets, assistants, and public who searched different areas. A lot of locals are noticing how quiet it is. Luckily we seem to have our normal range of birds around, although I have missed two Rosellas that used to sit on our verandah for long periods.

As promised last week, here are the photos from the Community Garden.

Some tomatoes survived on this bush.

The last of the cabbages with dug out holes on top.

It has been a shock to all the volunteer gardeners of course but a big cleanup was organized.

Before looking its best.

All the climbing plants, and every herb and vegetable were destroyed.

Grape Vines and Blueberries stripped.

The front entrance is looking very sad, the  flowers on the trees plus many leaves knocked off. It is a little hard to match photo for photo but I hope everyone is getting the picture of how bad it was.

Well what can I say, it will grow back again, new vegetables and flowers can be planted. Nearly 400kgs of  rubbish was taken to the dump, which the council had allowed free of charge to all the residents who had their own gardens destroyed. Plus all the bushland and trees in this area leaves were scattered everywhere.

Extra trucks were put on to pick up furniture, wet carpet, broken glass and plastic. Many many cars were hit by the hail. This is the area, the inner bit of course being the most damaged and largest hail.

After a very, very loud and frightening thunderstorm Friday, as so close to the house, but not much rain, let us hope that is the end of it. Although more heavy rain is predicted and of which we had last night.

Stay Safe Everyone,

Till Next Time.
